Start with the heater, not the cabin
The heater's rating decides almost everything: the cable size, the breaker, whether you need three-phase power, and whether your switchboard can carry it. Get the heater's installation manual before you buy and send it to your electrician. It lists the exact circuit requirements.
Stone versus infrared
Traditional stone saunas use a large heater and draw a lot of current for long periods. Infrared cabins use panels that draw less, but they still want a dedicated circuit. Neither should be plugged into an existing power point circuit.
Check your switchboard capacity
If your home already runs ducted air, a pool and an EV charger, adding a stone sauna heater can push a single-phase supply close to its limit. A quick capacity check tells you whether you need a board upgrade or a sub-board first.
Backyard and poolside saunas
Outdoor saunas need an underground supply from the house, trenched to the right depth and protected. If the sauna sits near a pool, plan the cable route alongside any pool bonding and equipment wiring so the trench is only dug once.
Book the electrician early
Tell us the heater model, where the sauna will go and where your switchboard is. We will quote the circuit, controls and any upgrade before the sauna arrives.
